Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is a rare, inflammatory, idiopathic skin disorder, which typically presents as symmetrically scattered pruritic erythematous reticulated papules with occasional vesicles. PP has been primarily a disease of the trunk and the neck, and, to the authors’ knowledge, there has been only two reported cases of PP where the forehead/facial areas were involved worldwide
Prurigo pigmentosa responds well to tetracycline and has an excellent prognosis. Prurigo pigmentosa is also known as Nagashima disease and 'keto rash'. The diagnosis of prurigo pigmentosa was made on the basis of the clinico-histological features and a response to minocycline. Although prurigo pigmentosa is uncommon, it has characteristic clinical and histological features. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment result in a rapid response and prevents a progression of pigmentation. Prurigo pigmentosa, also referred to as Nagashima's disease, is a rare inflammatory skin condition of unknown etiology.
